Gedongsongo Group of
Temples is located up in the clouds around Mt. Ungaran. The group consists of nine small
Hindu temples. It is assumed that there is some kind of connection, or similarity between
the temples here, with the group of temples in Dieng. They are almost as old as those on
Dieng, built in the 8th or 9th century, and their history is, too, still unknown. |

It appears that in this
site, there had been a ritual ceremony of purification, to walk from hill to hill, up and
down the winding paths between, making pilgrimage to all the temples in turn. Like in Dieng, excavation, research, and reconstructions
are still continuing here in Gedongsongo, to reveal the mystery about these temples.
