Located on the road
between Prambanan Temple and Yogyakarta, Sari Temple is prettily set amongst banana and
coconut grooves. It is similar in appearance to the Plaosan Temple, and was built about
ninth century. A surprising temple. Sari is built on a 17.3 x 10 metre oblong - not square. It has two stories, and even the appearance of a third. |

| There are no other
two-storied temple known in Indonesia today, except for the Borobudur Temple. The main temple contains three chambers, with three upstair rooms above them, which were entered by a wooden stairway to the second floor from the southern chamber. The floor is made of timber. Experts say that the three top rooms might have housed a library, acted as a store for treasures, or been used to accomodate the monks.
