Sewu Temple is located
not far from Prambanan, only about 2 kilometres, with a beautiful view of rice and
sugar-cane field along the road. It was build around 850AD to the glory of Buddha. The word "sewu", in Javanese means thousand, but in fact, the main temple was surrounded by "only" 240 small ones. Before entering the area, there are guard statues called "Dwarapala" - |

| with their sturdy
bodies, clubs, and swords - in large size and nicely sculptured. Inside the main temple,
there is an unusual closed gallery with remains of niches and archways. A very romantic and interesting site to explore.
