Kasultanan Palace of Yogyakarta
spc_pl.gif (57 bytes) Kasultanan Palace of Yogyakarta, is another interesting one to visit. The construction of the palace began in 1755, and continued for almost 40 years, during the long reign of the first king - Hamengkubuwono I.

To step within the massive inner building of the

kraton (palace) walls is to enter a patrician world of the grace and elegance. About 1921, during the reign of Hamengkubuwono VII and Hamengkubuwono VIII, the interior was remodelled with European touch, incorporating Italian marbles, cast-iron comlumns, crystal chandeliers, and rococo furnishings into the - somehow contrasting - classical Javanese setting.

There is much more else to see within the palace, like the museum, ancient gamelan sets, the very spacious courtyards, and many others.
