Kasunanan Palace of Surakarta
Solo was the capital city of Mataram Kingdom - the last glorious kingdom in ancient Java. In 1755, it was fragmented into 2 territories, Surakarta and Yogyakarta. Surakarta Kingdom was then again divided into 2 territories - Kasunanan and Mangkunegaran,
while Yogyakarta was also divided into Kasultanan and Pakualaman. The Kasunanan Palace which can be seen right now was built in 1743.

Entering the Kasunanan Palace, you will notice the large square called "alun-alun", one is located on the north side and the other is on the south. Shaded by the groves of leafy banyan trees, men sell kerisses, statuettes, and many other traditional handicrafts.

The main builiding of the palace is decorated with aristocratic architecture and luxurious ornaments - such as marble floors, gold and diamond ornaments, crystal lamps - inside that now delights the eye in every corner of the complex.

Also don't miss to see the art gallery exhibiting royal heirlooms, antiques, old Hindu-Java bronzes, ancient Royal wagon and vehicles, and many other historic significances.

Note : The Palace Closes on Fridays
