Sonobudoyo Museum is
one interesting place to visit, for anyone interested in Central Java's rich artistic
heritage, located not far from the Kasultanan
Palace of Yogyakarta. It was opened in 1935 by the Java Institute, a cultural
foundation composed of wealthy Javanese and Dutch art patrons. The museum houses important collections about Javanese history, including prehistoric artifacts, Hindu-Buddhist bronzes, wayang (puppets), dance costumes, traditional Javanese weapons, gamelan set musical instrument, and other remarkable ones.
