Sangiran Museum
Sangiran, the land of mystery, is located about 15 kms north of Surakarta. The area is an important archaeological excavation site, where Eugene Dubois revealed the famous ancient Java Man pithecanthropus erectus in 1894 - who inhabited the Old World from about 1.7 million until 250,000 years ago.
This area is well-known among archaeologists, where they can do scientific researches in anthropology and geology. Here, there are lots of prehistoric remains, still in original form, buried under the layers of soil.

Now, there is also a mini-museum exhibiting prehistoric fossils of human being, mammals, marine animals, and plants.
