At the heart of Java,
both geographically and culturally, lies Solo, one of the most interesting tourist
destinations and less-westernized city in Indonesia. Situated on a fertile plain, Solo is surrounded by volcanic mountains - Mt.
Merapi, Mt. Merbabu, and Mt. Lawu - alongside the longest river in Java - the Bengawan
Solo river. |

As reflection of the
earlier direct descendants of the Mataram Empire, palaces with fascinating art gallery,
museums of royal heirlooms, can be easily reached. In expressing their beliefs on the existence of God, modern Solonese still carves
their way of life with sincere smile, remarkable patience, and appreciation. On the other
side, the traditional Javanese academies still continuously protect and foster the old
Javanese arts and cultures, language, and literature.
Many people also call Solo as "The City that
Never Sleeps". From evening throughout the night, even until dawn, you can
always easily find something to buy or eat. Mostly they are served on "warung"
stalls, the place where Solonese like to gather and socialize in relax, while having
snacks and hot drinks.
On behalf of the people of Solo, we would like to
warmly welcome you to our city with its cultural heritage and hospitality.
